Medium length bob hairstyles

The medium length bob hairstyle is a great idea for anyone who is hesitant to go to the short length bob.  This bob features undercut layers and face framing angles combined with either no bangs or side swept bangs.

Pam Grier's Hairstyles

Jessica Simpson looks great here with the medium bob.  The ends are styled under and the layers around the face gently frame her shape and draw attention to the eye area.

Short Hairstyles

There are so many cute short hairstyles today.  The bob became very popular last year as celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes chopped off their hair for the cute modern bob.

Below are some examples of short hairstyles.  If you aren't sure about going short, you can always try on the short hair before you get your hair cut.  For details on the new hairstyle imaging software available online, just click on any of the photos below.  Programs allow you to create your own virtual makeover by uploading your own photo and trying on hairstyles.

Short Hairstyles - Are you going short?

As the editor of Hair Resources, I review keyword reports for many different sites.  One of the most popular keywords on a few sites is 'short hairstyles'  Everyone is searching for short hairstyle recently.  Does this mean that a lot of women are planning to go short?

There are many short hairstyles today that look very modern and edgy.  They have the ease of style with the classy look. Take for example, Katie Holmes- see photo left.  Katie is constantly changing the shape and form of her short hairstyle.  This style features hair ending a few inches below the chin with lots of choppy layers added throughout.    The bangs are cut somewhat choppy and end at the eyebrows.  She is sticking with the dark brown hairstyle that works well with her coloring and facial features.  See Katie Holmes Hairstyles

Many women would love to have this type of short hairstyle, but are a little skeptical of how it would actually look on them.  A great way to try out a short hairstyle, without actually gettin gyour hair cut, is to use online virtual hairstyling software.  This software allows you to upload your own photo and try the hairstyle on your own photo.  You can see exactly what you will look like.  It's a great option if you are on the fence about a certain style.  If you see how it looks and you like the look, you can schedule your haircut appointment and remain calm.  See more great celebrity hairstyles.

What Hairstyles do you Like the Most?

It seems like every time I go to get my hair cut, I end up with pretty much the same cut, give or take a few inches or layers. I don't stray too far off the path when it comes to hairstyles.

Yet, my favorite hairstyles are not anything like the one that I always have. I absolutely love the long flowing hairstyles that look effortless. They are very soft and feminine-looking and the hair always appears so healthy and shiny from good conditioning treatments. Here are a few examples of my favorite looks.

Hairstyles + Your Favorite Look

Do you ever have the perfect dress to wear to party, but can't figure out how to wear your hair?  Maybe you should wear an updo, partial updo or just wear your hair down.

Emma Roberts Partial Updp

In the end your hairstyle can greatly affect the way your overall look is received.  Pick the wrong hairstyle and your look could suffer.  Sometimes it is a good idea to experiment with creating different hairstyles so that when the time co

mes you have several hairstyle options that you already know how to create on your own.

There are many hairstyle options that are fairly easy to create on your own.  Take for example the styles shown below.

This partial updo hairstyle is easy to create on your own.  First applya  styling/straightening balm or lotion to damp hair.  Blow dry the hair using a large round brush to shape and pull the hair down smooth.

Next part the hair deep on one side of the head and gently pull back a small section of the hair in the crown area.  Secure the hair with a low ponytail.

For extra smoothness, run a flat iron over the hair from roots to the ends.  Spray the hair with a shine serum  to get a glossy look.

This is a great hairstyle to practice for any formal occasion.  It should not take very long to create and it usually stays in place for an evening of activities.

Hairstyles Help - How to find one that looks good

How to Find Hairstyles

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

At some point in time, everyone becomes tired of their hairstyle. Maybe you need a small change, maybe you are looking for a big change. Find out how to find hairstyles that will make you look your very best.

Steps

  1. Finding hairstyles used to be very cumbersome. You had to buy tons of women's magazines and then spend hours pouring thru them to find just the right style you are looking for. Some magazines are better than others, but it was still very time consuming.

  2. Now with the Internet, you can find hairstyles so much faster and even find places where you can try them on before you get your hair cut.

  3. Determine your face shape. Face shape is the pivotal factor in any good hairstyle. It is sort of like 'what size do you wear'. If you wear a size 8 pants, you wouldn't want to buy a size 10 pants or a size 6 pants, would you? The same goes for your hairstyle.

  4. To figure out what shape you are, pull all of your hair back off your face and stand in front of a mirror. Trace the outline of your face on the mirror with a bar of soap. Stand back and look at the shape you have drawn. There are 5 basic face shapes - oval, round, heart, diamond and square. And most face shapes are a combination of one of these 5.

  5. Determine your hair type. If you hair is super thin, you might not look good in a hairstyle that is suited for thicker hair. The rule of thumb is if you pull all your hair back into a ponytail and the distance around the ponytail is the size of a quarter or more--then you have thick hair. If the distance around the ponytail is the size of a dime, then you have thin hair.

  6. Start looking for hairstyles that work for your face shape. How can you tell if the face shape will work for your shape? Look at the face shape of the person modeling the hairstyle. You must also pay attention to the hair texture. Does the person have thick hair or thin hair. These will be important factors for determining if that hairstyle will work for you. Some great places to look for hairstyles include

  14. Schedule a consultation appointment with a stylist. Some salons will offer a free consultation to discuss your proposed hairstyles. During the consultation you can bring in a copy of the hairstyle that you like and ask the stylist if he or she thinks it will work for you and your faceshape. The stylist is your best source of advice for finding a new hairstyle that looks good.

Tips

  • Another great option to changing your hairstyle without a drastic change is to add bangs. There are many different types of bangs that can be added to create a whole new look. If you aren't quite sure about cutting bangs (since it takes so long to grow them out) is to get some wispy side bangs. The length of the bang is just past your eyebrows and if you don't like the bang, they can simply be styled in with the rest of your hair.

Adding Long Hair Bangs

Ming-Na's Hairstyles This was a very casual 'do for Ming-Na at the 6th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. Her hair was cut to sit on her shoulders and was layered with a slicing finish to achieve a textured finish while still adding movement to the style. The long bangs falling to the side helps to conceal her high hairline.

How to Style:
Gel spray damp hair and then finger dry using circular scrunching movements. To finish, wax the ends all over for separation. Remember, the messier, the better.

Angelina Jolie Long Hairstyles, Timeless Classic

Angelina Jolie's Hairstyles

Angelina always has a good hairstyle.  Have you ever seen photos of her when she doesn't look good?  We are so used to seeing her with very minimal makeup, that to see her without makeup is not a huge difference.

Angelina Jolie had all eyes on her dark brown mane at The New York Festival Centerpiece Screening of Changeling. Her large loose waves were enhanced by her long layers, and they were styled over to one side to create body and movement. This hairstyle is easily re-created with a large curling iron or large hot rollers, and only a little product is needed.

How to Style:
Apply mousse to damp hair, then blow-dry out and up in sections, starting from the bottom using a medium round brush. The front should be dried forward, to add a round look. When dry, apply moulding cream to the ends and pinch into place. Lacquer can be added for extra support if required.

This was a smooth style for Radha at the Feast of Love premiere. Her hair was cut to one length and long soft layers were cut into her back and sides to add movement to her ends. Her side layers are also cut slightly shorter to create softness through the front.
