Homecoming Hair Styles

Homecoming hair styles this year vary between long curly styles and partial updos. The long curly hairstyle is always a popular choice for formal hair styles.  To get this style on your own, first apply a curl-enhancing cream or gel to damp hair. Blow dry the hair using only your fingers to shape and position the hair. Using a diffuser attachment on the blow dryer will help eliminate any frizz and promote any natural curls to develop.

Whenever you use hot appliances such as a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron, it is highly recommended that you apply a heat protectant to the hair to prevent any hair damage.

Add all over curls by using a medium to large barrel curling iron. If you are skilled, you can use a flat iron to create the curls.

Top Short Hairstyles

Short hairstyles can be very cute and trendy.  Many different types of short hairstyles require very frequent and precise hair cutting techniques. If you are going to go short, make sure that you have an experienced stylist.  Remember if you don't like your new style, you will have to a long time to grow it all back.

Ashley Judd is wearing a very cute short hairstyle that falls just below the ear level.  The layers in the crown area are kept long, with long side swept bangs/fringe.

Finding the right hairstyle

Finding the right hairstyle can take a bit of trial and error.  Hairstyles are not designed as a one size fits all.  They must be tailored to your face shape, hair type and texture.  What works for someone with thick and coarse hair will not work the same for someone with thin or thinning hair.

The first place to start with finding the right hairstyle is your face shape. To find out what your face shape is, pull all the hair off of your face. Stand in front of a mirror and trace the outline of your face with a erasable marker or bar of soap.  Stand back and look at the shape you have drawn.  What shape does it most closely resemble?

There are five basic face shapes: Oval, round, square, heart and oblong.  Most women will have a face shape that is a combination of two or more shapes.  For example, you might have a heart shape on top, but more of an oval shape on the bottom part of your face.

Stay tuned for what to do now that you know your face shape.
